Representatives of non-Serb minorities on the formation of institutions: New elections must be avoided

Representatives of non-Serb minority communities in the Assembly have announced their support for the formation of new Kosovo institutions, saying that it is necessary to ensure their functionality as soon as possible and reach an agreement on the election of the president in order to avoid a new political crisis and elections.

The leader of the New Democratic Party, Emilija Redzepi, said that she will support the election of the President of the Assembly of Kosovo and the formation of the new government.

“Of course, I will vote for the president of the parliament and the new government, so that the institutions can start working as soon as possible. Self-Determination, together with us, the members of parliament who are not Serbs, has 61 votes,” Redzepi told Front Online.

She assessed that opposition parties are not interested in electing the president because of internal problems and that they need time to resolve them.

“Other political parties should also be involved in the election of the president of the country. Otherwise, we will go to elections, which, in my opinion, will lead us into another endless labyrinth. As for the party I lead, we are also ready for new elections, which could be held in December if we fail to elect the president of the country,” Redžepi said.

The President of the Democratic Party of Turks of Kosovo, Fikrim Damka, also supports the swiftest possible formation of new institutions, believing that an agreement with the opposition on the election of the president will be reached.

“We advocate for the earliest possible formation of institutions, so that we can elect the president of the parliament and form the government. I believe that an agreement with the opposition regarding the president will be reached,” Damka said.

According to him, Kosovo no longer has time to waste.

“Kosovo has lost a lot of time and we need institutional stability,” Damka said.

Assembly member from the Ashkali community, Artan Aslani, also said that his party will support the formation of new institutions.

“This is the third term in which we have been in a joint government with Self-Determination, and there is no longer any sense in being an obstacle, especially when it comes to communities,” Aslani stated.

He added that his party’s position will be focused on the functioning of institutions, regardless of the names of those who will be part of the government.

“We have not yet held meetings with representatives of the communities, but we will hold them in the coming days. The position of our political party will be pro-institutional, regardless of the names,” Aslani said.
