Rohde: No guarantee that Kosovo will be recognized by the five EU countries at the end of the dialogue

The Ambassador of Germany in Pristina, Jorn Rohde, says that there is no guarantee that at the end of the dialogue, the five EU countries that did not recognize Kosovo's independence will do so, Ekonomia online reports.

Rohde said that the European Union was committed to dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia and efforts to reach a final agreement for the normalization of relations.

"With this proposal, we want to get out of the crisis and we don't want to waste too much time. We have to overcome problems such as license plates, or the abandonment of Kosovo's institutions by Serbs, we have to see the bigger picture of the problem solving," Rohde said.

He added that he hopes that Kosovo will take advantage of the momentum and take a big step towards the normalization of relations with Serbia.

"We should not waste energy on other issues such as the campaign to withdraw recognition or license plates. These problems must be overcome and we must move on," Rohde added.

Speaking about the five EU countries that have not recognized Kosovo, Rohde said that there was no guarantee that this would happen at the end of the agreement.

"We cannot make decisions instead of other EU countries. Nor can the EU vouch for Germany's position on any issue. However, we are making efforts to move towards the recognition of Kosovo by these five countries. Even the EU's special envoy Miroslav Lajcak talked with the countries that have not recognized Kosovo and this is a joint effort to end this issue," Rohde says.
