Miletic: Washington will not give up the pressure on Kurti and the insistence on the CSM
Washington activated all diplomatic resources to force Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti to start the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities formation, which is the key to the return of Serbs to the institutions, but also a prerequisite for all the preconditions for the Franco-German proposal for Kosovo to "enter the game" at all, Novosti newspaper writes.
Dejan S. Miletic, from the Center for the Study of Globalization, says that the US administration will not give up the pressure on Kurti and the insistence on the CSM because their credibility is at stake, as well as the comprehensive US-Serbia relations, which Washington wants to improve.
"There is no doubt that Germany also has its interests, which it shows through a different approach to Serbia and to the Kosovo issue. Berlin is much harsher, subjective, and determined towards Pristina, and this shows that it is not a stowaway on the ship of American politics," Miletic says.
Ognjen Karanovic from the Center for Social Stability said that the US initiative regarding the CSM was "reasonable, but perhaps too late".
He also indicates that the CSM issue cannot be related to the new framework of negotiations because, without the previous Brussels Agreement fulfillment, the question of the meaning of reaching any new agreements arises.
They forgot the Management team
Although the Management team for the CSM (according to the Brussels Agreement, the only one in charge of this issue) completed the Community Statute draft in 2018, this document remained a "dead letter on paper" because there was no invitation from Brussels for the proposal to be presented at the EU headquarters until today.
At the end of last year, the German non-governmental organization "Friedrich Ebert Stiftung" (FES) prepared a draft of the CSM Statute, which should be officially presented soon.
