Political analyst from Pristina, Arbnor Sadiku, assessed Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani’s statement that Pristina could unilaterally implement obligations from the Brussels Agreement if it received guarantees from the international community as irrelevant. Sadiku says for Kosovo Online that the dialogue is currently being decided by Albin Kurti and that Pristina’s position on the matter will become clearer after the elections.

“Firstly, we can conclude that Ms. Osmani is not the main political factor in Kosovo. Regarding Mr. Kurti, he is very engaged in the dialogue. After everything, we cannot take Ms. Osmani’s statements seriously when it comes to how the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia might unfold,” the analyst said.

He emphasizes that Kurti is a significant political figure shaping the political landscape in Kosovo, but that the situation around the dialogue will only become clear after the elections.

“After the elections in Kosovo in February 2025, we will know what Kosovo’s position is regarding the dialogue and what kind of agreement can be implemented,” he noted.

Osmani explained her proposal by drawing a comparison to the Ahtisaari Plan, which Serbia rejected but through which Kosovo, as she stated, achieved independence.

“I think we can draw a comparison and pursue that direction further, but for now, Kosovo needs to implement the Brussels Agreement and the annex from Ohrid,” Sadiku concluded.
