Sejdiu on the demolition of houses near Gazivode: Decisions made on an ethnic basis
Political commentator Dardan Sejdiu expressed concern over the way the operation to demolish houses near Lake Gazivode was carried out.
He said he does not want to live in a place where "decisions are made on an ethnic basis," adding that this is how the operation appeared to him.
"I do not like living in a country where decisions are made on an ethnic basis," Sejdiu said.
He added that there are many other illegal structures, Klan Kosova reports.
"It would be better if you told us what the next operation to demolish illegal structures will be, including, I believe, those located around other reservoir lakes that are also illegal. There are many of them," Sejdiu said.
The EU Office in Kosovo also commented on the demolition of houses in the Lake Gazivode area, expressing concern over the failure to observe due process in this case, as well as in several other recent cases in northern Kosovo since February of this year.
In a statement, the office called for the immediate suspension of all further demolitions, forced evictions or property seizures until concerns regarding due process, proportionality, property rights, human rights and effective legal remedies are properly addressed.
The British Embassy and the German Embassy also expressed concern over the demolition of the houses.
