Serb List representatives with US senators on the position of Serbs in Kosovo
Serb List President Zlatan Elek and the party's parliamentary group leader, Igor Simic, met with US Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Dick Durbin, whom they briefed on what they described as the extremely difficult position of the Serb people in Kosovo, as well as the numerous problems and challenges Serbs face on a daily basis.
According to a statement issued by the Serb List, during the meeting at the United States Embassy in Pristina, particular attention was drawn to the continued failure to implement agreements already reached, especially regarding the establishment of the Community of Serb Municipalities and the representation of Serbs in institutions.
The Serb List representatives also highlighted the consequences of failing to honor commitments made, particularly for the position, rights and future of the Serb people.
Special attention during the talks was devoted to institutional practices which, according to the Serb List, undermine the fundamental human, civil and political rights of Serbs. The need to ensure full respect for the rights of the Serbian community and prevent any form of institutional pressure or discrimination was emphasized.
“One of the most important issues raised was the security of the Serb people, with concerns among citizens highlighted, along with the need to ensure conditions in which Serbs can live peacefully, safely and with dignity, without fear for their own security or that of their families,” the statement said.
Elek and Simic also stressed the importance of international community engagement in protecting the rights of the Serb people, ensuring the consistent implementation of agreements already reached, and creating conditions for lasting stability and security in Kosovo.
“The Serb List will continue to draw the attention of international representatives to all the problems faced by the Serb people and to insist on respect for their rights, security and continued presence in this region,” the statement concluded.
