Serb List highlights importance of establishing CSM in meeting with Schiebel

A Serb List delegation today hosted Head of the European Union Office in Pristina and EU Special Representative Ambassador Dirk Schiebel in the municipality of Zvecan, where they discussed the position of the Serbian community and the current problems facing Serbs.

In a statement, the Serb List said its representatives had briefed Ambassador Schiebel on the challenges the Serbian population encounters in everyday life, pointing, among other things, to institutional pressures, problems affecting the functioning of Serb-majority local governments and the need to ensure the unhindered operation of institutions that are of direct importance to citizens.

“During the discussion, particular emphasis was placed on the need to respect the rights of the Serbian people and create conditions for them to live safely and with dignity, with full respect for the commitments undertaken and agreements reached within the dialogue,” the statement said.

The Serb List delegation also highlighted the importance of establishing the Community of Serb Municipalities (CSM) as one of the issues that must be addressed in accordance with the agreements reached, and stressed the importance of consistent implementation of commitments undertaken by all sides.

Serb List representatives expressed the expectation that the European Union would continue to devote attention to the position of the Serbian community, the functioning of local governments and respect for the rights of Serbs as important issues for stability and normalization on the ground.

The interlocutors also discussed the importance of continuing dialogue and institutional communication with a view to resolving concrete problems faced by citizens.

Following his meeting with the mayors of the four municipalities in northern Kosovo, EU Ambassador to Kosovo Dirk Schiebel said that they had discussed challenges affecting the municipalities’ ability to provide services to citizens, as well as the need for better cooperation between institutions at the central and local levels.
