Spahiu: Harmful Decision by CEK regarding the Serb List, Self-Determination playing games before elections
University professor Nexhmedin Spahiu believes that the decision by the Central Election Commission (CEK) not to allow the Serb List to participate in the parliamentary elections on February 9th is a major mistake and a pre-election ploy by the Self-Determination Movement.
"It is a major mistake because the Serb List must be registered, as it is the largest and strongest party in the Serbian community in Kosovo. I think this is a ploy by Self-Determination ahead of the elections, to show that they are supposedly bigger patriots than others, but I hope that other bodies in the procedure after the appeal will correct this. It is harmful to the Serbian community in Kosovo, and thus to the entire Kosovo society," Spahiu believes.
He mentions that he learned from the media that the reason for not certifying was due to statements made by the leader of the Serb List, Zlatan Elek, which he finds very strange. "No matter what those statements were, we still have statements from representatives of Albanian parties that are quite inappropriate for the state of Kosovo, like the one from Minister Aliu who stated that Kosovo is a temporary state. Elek could not have said anything worse than that. Aliu is still a minister, and on the other hand, banning the Serb List due to any declaration by Zlatan Elek is entirely inappropriate and unacceptable," he said.
Spahiu emphasizes that the Serb List has gained in quality as a political party after the election of Zlatan Elek as president. "Elek is smarter than all other political leaders in Kosovo, including Albin Kurti and the recent leaders of political parties. This must be resolved and this big mistake must be corrected," said the interlocutor.
In this regard, he assesses that there are mechanisms that can correct this decision and they must be used, otherwise it would be a great damage for the Serb List not to participate in the elections.
