Spahiu: Instead of investing in armaments, it would be better to invest in the economy, healthcare, and education
Political analyst Nexhmedin Spahiu views the new “arms race in the region” with disapproval and points out that it would be far better to invest in the economy, healthcare, and education.
Spahiu tells Kosovo Online that it looks as if preparations for war are underway.
“We are preparing for war, which is not good. It would be better to invest in the economy, healthcare, education, and other things. This, however, shows how dangerous the situation in the region is and how neighbors threaten one another and want to flex their muscles. Probably no one here will go to war with Uganda, Nigeria, or Brazil – if anyone goes to war, it will be a war between neighbors,” Spahiu said.
Asked whether the procurement of new weapons systems is merely a preventive strengthening of defense or rather a show of strength toward neighbors, our interlocutor believes that both reasons are involved.
“Both, I think it is preventive and also a show of strength, but when one goes very far in that direction, then it becomes very dangerous,” he said.
