Serbia’s Minister for European Integration, Nemanja Starovic, stated that the statement made by Kosovo’s acting Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Svecla, was shameful. Svecla had commented on the incident involving a Serbian high school graduate in North Mitrovica, claiming that the Kosovo Police had "professionally taken necessary measures" and alleging that "the three-finger symbol signifies ethnic cleansing, genocide, and Serbia’s territorial claims toward Kosovo."

Starovic, on the social media platform X, emphasized the need to demand justice in this case.

"An excuse is worse than a lie — it’s a lie preserved. Shame on Svecla for defending the Kosovo Police brutality against Serbian youth with weak excuses. Demand justice!" Starovic stressed.

Kosovo’s acting Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Svecla, stated that the Kosovo Police had acted professionally and taken necessary measures during the graduation celebration in North Mitrovica in order to prevent further escalation.

However, video footage circulating on social media shows a Kosovo Police officer assaulting a Serbian high school student, repeatedly grabbing him by the neck.

High school graduates were celebrating the end of the school year, and as they walked along the promenade, the footage shows that Albanians sitting in nearby cafés were shouting at them and making the double-headed eagle hand sign.
