Starovic: When Rama talks about Kosovo, he avoids the most important element – the UN Charter and Resolution 1244

Serbia’s Minister for European Integration, Nemanja Starovic, said today that when Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama talks about Kosovo, he avoids the most important element – the UN Charter and the still fully valid UN Security Council Resolution 1244. He stressed that Kosovo lies within Serbia’s borders recognized by the United Nations.

Reacting on the “X” platform to Rama’s claims that Kosovo’s territory is not Serbian territory, Starovic stressed that borders recognized by the UN are and must remain sacred, whether we are talking about Serbia, Ukraine, China, or Cyprus, and, of course, including Albania.

“Invoking good-neighborly relations while refusing to respect the territorial integrity of one’s neighbour is little more than hypocritical lip service. The same applies to the lofty talk of European values and the rights of the Serbian community, carefully omitting any mention of the 2013 Brussels Agreement and the still-unestablished Community of Serbian Municipalities. That is the real issue — not the Ibar river or water-management plans,” Starovic said.

He added that everyone rightly aspires to a European future and that they should work together toward that noble goal, but that fairness and honesty are the only solid foundation.

“Without them, talk about good-neighborly relations remains nothing more than sandcastles with serious structural flaws,” Starovic said.

Edi Rama had previously stated in a post on “X” that the territory of Kosovo is not Serbian territory and that the natural resources located there are not resources belonging to Serbia.

Regarding Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic’s announcement that a change in the course of the Ibar River would be considered, he said that the Ibar is a “transboundary water system.”

Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric responded to Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama regarding his post about a possible change in the course of the Ibar, saying that Serbia’s position on Kosovo is not folklore, but is based on the Constitution, and that discussions about the Ibar were initiated solely because the authorities in Pristina are using this summer to demolish Serbian homes without due process along the shores of Lake Gazivode and the Ibar River.
