Svecla: Nearly 600 police officers in northern Kosovo resigned

Kosovo Internal Affairs Minister Xhelal Svecla stated that the Kosovo Police regional directorate in North Mitrovica had received nearly 600 resignations by Serb nationality police officers, the Albanian Gazeta Express news portal reported on Monday.

"There are 578 officially submitted resignations, out of which 461 are from the public order police, 107 from the border police, and 10 are from the investigative services," Svecla said at the press conference.

He emphasized that the police officers had been receiving threats and had to resign for their own safety.

"The resignations came after threats and blackmail. If they had not resigned, the existence of police officials would have been threatened", he said.
