Tenney: The crisis in Kosovo caused by Pristina's punitive policy towards the Serbs
The Co-Chair of the Congressional Serbia Caucus, Claudia Tenney, released a statement in which she stated that the crisis in Kosovo was caused by the imposition of Pristina's restrictive license plates policy. At the same time, she called on Kosovo not to take unilateral steps and to postpone the implementation of the decision.
"The current crisis is troubling and concerning. The US and the EU are looking for a solution that would alleviate the situation caused by Prishtina's decision to introduce punitive measures for the Serbian population in the Province. As Co-Chair of the Congressional Serbia Caucus, I welcome the efforts by the US Department of State and the EU to postpone the implementation of this policy in a manner that is constructive. I urge that no unilateral moves be taken by Kosovo and that the delay be extented until Serbia and Kosovo return to the negotiating table, and a final agreement is achieved," she stated in the press release.
As she said, in order for the current crisis to de-escalate, full protection of the human and political rights of all minorities in Kosovo, especially the Serbs, must be ensured, in accordance with international law and democratic values.
"Our partners in the Western Balkans must engage diplomatically. The Biden Administration should also ensure that America continues to engage constructively and proactively in the region to advance peace between all parties, building on the succeses of the previous Administration. It is time to return to the negotiating table in a constructive manner that embraces our shared vision of a stable and prosperous Western Balkans region," she said.
