Syle Ukshini, former ambassador of Kosovo to Albania, believes that the Ohrid Agreement is gradually losing value and that this year will pass without a substantive dialogue if Kosovo goes to elections again, as well as due to, as he says, the internal situation of Aleksandar Vucic.

“I think that 2026 will be completely lost because of internal circumstances. The only thing that may happen are sporadic mutual meetings, just enough to control the situation and only so it can be said that Serbs and Albanians are negotiating in Brussels, but not in order to achieve progress on certain points,” Ukshini told Kosovo Online.

He points out that the dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade has stalled since the Ohrid Agreement was reached and that he is not optimistic that the agreement can be implemented.

The European Union, he adds, is focused on the war in Ukraine rather than on this dialogue.

“The further development after the Ohrid Agreement is a failure of the EU because of the way it was prepared. On the other hand, neither Kosovo nor Serbia have shown much willingness to implement the Ohrid Agreement. Vucic spoke about the Community, Kurti asked for a signature, which means they were passing the ball to each other. Therefore, there were no willing sides for the agreement to be implemented. However, the EU made big promises because this agreement is based on the model of the Two Germanys model. However, the agreement did not meet expectations and is gradually losing value. The dialogue will probably start with some other agreement. I am not optimistic that the Ohrid Agreement can be implemented,” Ukshini said.
