Vucevic: The chauvinist ideology of Kurti's regime the only threat to regional peace
Serbia is the pillar of stability in the Western Balkans, and any accusation of different intentions from Belgrade should be outright rejected as fake news, especially when such claims come from representatives of the provisional self-government institutions in Pristina, Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic stated in response to Albin Kurti's article in "The New York Times."
Vucevic emphasized that Kurti's regime, "with its chauvinistic ideology and unilateral actions aimed against the Serbian and other non-Albanian populations in Kosovo and Metohija, daily confirms that they are the only threat to regional peace."
"Albin Kurti's article in 'The New York Times' is a catalog of falsehoods and an attempt to find an alibi for the uncivilized and inhumane treatment of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija. The very tone of the text exudes a bare and pathological contempt for everything Serbian, revealing Kurti's ideological framework, which can only be described as a policy of hatred," the prime minister stated in a press release.
He added that it was a completely distorted narrative.
"It is a completely distorted narrative about the nature of the separatist movement in Kosovo and Metohija, which is the sole source of all the problems we have faced in Kosovo and Metohija from 1999 to the present. The praises of NATO as the savior of the Albanian people have nothing to do with the truth or the current situation on the ground," Vucevic stated.
As he pointed out, Serbia is universally recognized worldwide as a successful and progressive country and a driving force for the development of the Western Balkans region.
"Therefore, Kurti's pathetic and archaic propaganda narratives cannot have the effect they might have had two and a half decades ago. Commitment to peace and stability is demonstrated through democratic behavior, respect for human rights, and constructiveness in the dialogue that Belgrade and Pristina conduct with the EU's mediation. Kurti fails in all these areas, proving himself to be a troublemaker, not someone who cares about peace and stability," Vucevic noted.
He added that Kurti had not progressed beyond being a "Marxist-Enverist extremist."
"His screed in 'The New York Times' is proof that he has not progressed far from the Marxist-Enverist extremist who used to overturn trucks carrying Serbian goods, burn Serbian-made biscuits and chocolates, and act violently even against political opponents of Albanian nationality, introducing the use of tear gas instead of arguments. And when it comes to the victims of Albanian separatism in Kosovo and Metohija, he should better answer why almost a quarter of a million Serbs and other non-Albanians expelled from Kosovo and Metohija still do not have the opportunity to return home," Vucevic concluded.
