Vucevic: There are indications that Pristina might accept the entry of Serbian goods into Kosovo
Serbian Prime Minister Miloš Vucevic stated this evening that there are indications that Pristina might accept the entry of Serbian goods into Kosovo.
“There are some indications that Pristina might ease up, or accept the entry of Serbian goods into Kosovo. The Germans are now heavily promoting this through the new CEFTA agreement, which requires a lot of our tactical thinking and wisdom. We’ll see if this will be achieved on the eve of the 10th anniversary of the Berlin Process,” Vucevic told Euronews Serbia.
He pointed out that security and safety are the essential conditions for a normal life for Serbs in Kosovo.
“And then you hear that children don’t have regular vaccines, that they can’t get vaccinated, that they can’t get medicine, that there’s a lack of equipment—everything that is necessary for life and work,” the Serbian Prime Minister stated.
He warned that Serbia is facing significant challenges regarding Kosovo.
“We have to know who we are dealing with,” Vucevic emphasized.
He also mentioned that the Serbian government is already working on the measures announced by President Aleksandar Vucic.
“We are preparing all acts, to declare Kosovo a special area of social protection, as well as amendments to the Criminal Procedure Law concerning the jurisdiction of judicial institutions. We are also preparing the decision of the Serbian Assembly, which will declare illegal all acts that are contrary to the agreements reached since 2008 and the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo and Metohija. In addition, we will continue our diplomatic activities,” Vucevic said.
When asked whether he expects the opposition to support this proposal, he replied that he’s not sure but would like to see it happen.
“We will have two perspectives: some will tell us that we need to accept reality and Kosovo’s independence, while others will accuse us of betrayal and selling out, saying that we should respond with military action… Both of these policies are disastrous,” the Prime Minister underlined.
He added that he has already asked opposition MPs in parliament what their political stance is on Kosovo.
“I understand the critical stance, but not what their alternative is. And to sell us the story again—that if the undemocratic government in Serbia were changed, a dialogue with the Albanians would solve everything… The Albanians don’t want an agreement unless we recognize Kosovo. They are not interested in an agreement with the Serbs or Serbia, unless we say that Kosovo is independent,” Vucevic pointed out.
He emphasized that the situation for Serbs in Kosovo is extremely difficult and that it’s important to openly state what can be done while preserving the entire state.
“We can allocate more economic and social resources, and fight even harder politically and diplomatically, dealing with Kosovo and Metohija daily, not just in passing…” Vucevic noted.
He stated that, in agreement with the president, each ministry will have a team dedicated to Kosovo, as few people are working on it every day, even though, as he says, those on the other side are solely focused on this issue.
“Kurti doesn’t have Expo, Bio4Campus, educational unions, farmers, pension increases, or highways… Their only agenda is to resolve the issue of Kosovo’s independence and to deal with the Serbs in Kosovo,” Prime Minister Vucevic concluded.
