Vucic: With the Chinese Prime Minister about mutual support regarding Kosovo and Taiwan

As part of his visit to China, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic today met with Prime Minister Li Qiang and with Wang Huning, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. After the meetings, he emphasized that the talks confirmed the mutual support of Serbia and China regarding Kosovo and Taiwan.

“We discussed our cooperation within multilateral institutions, primarily the United Nations, and mutual support for the policies of China and Serbia regarding Taiwan and Kosovo and Metohija was confirmed. We discussed the best ways to cooperate,” Vucic told journalists in Beijing.

He also conveyed that he discussed the economy with the Chinese prime minister, and that data show that, thanks to the implementation of the Free Trade Agreement, Serbia recorded 20 percent higher exports to China last year than in 2024, while in the first four months of this year it recorded an almost 85 percent higher export rate than in the same period last year.

“These numbers are still insufficient, and there is broad room that our companies can take advantage of,” Vucic said.

He said they also discussed numerous projects in the fields of transport, energy, and infrastructure, given that Chinese companies are working on a large number of projects in Serbia, thereby contributing to the country’s accelerated development.

They also discussed cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence, and within that framework, nuclear energy as well, along with tourism.

“These were very important talks. Wang Huning is one of the most important people, they call him the ‘Chinese Kissinger,’ a man who participated in shaping Chinese foreign policy. They greatly appreciate Serbia’s independent position and independent policy. Nowhere in the world have I seen us receive this much attention, even more than the Prime Minister of Pakistan, who is also visiting. They spoke with us entirely as with best friends,” Vucic said.

He emphasized that Wang Huning explained to him in a very precise way what is happening in the world today, noting that the West no longer even refers to the international legal order.

“Until 2010 or 2015, we heard about the free market from the West, and then a major change came. As China embraced those key values and began to prevail, the West’s key value became protectionism, because they cannot compete with China. Everything has turned upside down, and that carries a political consequence – that in the midst of their nervousness, some countries are becoming increasingly arrogant. Previously they cared about the international legal order, now they no longer care about it at all. And the job of China and us small countries is to refer to the international order. Up until 10 years ago they lectured us about international law, and today they do not even mention it. Now, through their non-governmental organizations, they lecture us about their values, in which there are no longer any principles, only their needs. Their values are their needs and nothing else,” Vucic explained.

That is why, as he said, it is difficult for small countries to find their place in the modern world without being affected by conflicts, but Serbia will continue trying to do so and preserve peace.

He also conveyed that his interlocutors are convinced Serbia is on the right path, noting that in March this year the country had the highest salaries in the Western Balkans for the first time.

“These were tremendously important meetings, and I am very satisfied. An important meeting with the President of China awaits us. I believe it will end well for our country. We received a great deal of support during these first two meetings, and I believe that will continue today and in the coming days,” Vucic added.

The President of Serbia laid a wreath at the Monument to the People’s Heroes in Beijing.

“With deep respect, I paid tribute to all the heroes who wove their lives into the freedom and progress of China. Their sacrifice was not only part of history, but the foundation of the strength of a great country that, through many trials, managed to preserve its identity, pride, and faith in progress,” Vucic wrote on Instagram.

Meanwhile, the Chinese newspaper China Daily published an article in today’s edition dedicated to Vucic’s visit to China, assessing that its goal is to achieve more concrete results in building the alliance between China and Serbia, with a shared future in the new era.

“Over the years, bilateral relations have maintained strong momentum, becoming an example of peaceful coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation between countries of different civilizations and social systems,” the Chinese newspaper noted.

The article also recalls that Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric previously stated that President Vucic’s visit at the highest state level would have historic significance for Serbia and would provide a strong impetus for the further strengthening of the exceptional strategic relations and even closer and more fruitful cooperation between Serbia and China across a broad range of fields.
