Vucic: I will follow judgment against KLA leaders, ensuring security for Serbs in Kosovo is crucial

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said today that he would follow the delivery of the judgment against the KLA leaders in The Hague live, stressing that he was deeply concerned and that it was extremely important to preserve peace and ensure the safety of Serbs in Kosovo.

“I found the livestream, and of course I will follow the delivery of the judgment on September 16 from 10 a.m. I want to follow it, of course,” Vucic said on TV Pink.

Asked whether he was concerned about the developments surrounding the case and the rallies in support of Hashim Thaci, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi, Vucic said that he was deeply concerned.

“I am very concerned, which is why it was important that I sent a letter to Mark Rutte, and it was important that he replied to me. Today’s statements by KFOR, saying that it will not allow any escalation, are also important. That is why it is crucial to preserve peace and ensure the safety of our people,” Vucic stressed.

He said that protecting Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija was the responsibility of KFOR and NATO, not the so-called Kosovo Police.

“Not a single Serb in Kosovo and Metohija trusts that police force,” Vucic stressed.

Vucic: I will resign as President on September 27

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said this evening that he would resign as President of the Republic on September 27, adding that he would address the public that evening and thank citizens for their support.

Speaking on TV Pink, Vucic said that he had served as President of the Republic longer than anyone else since the introduction of the multiparty system in Serbia, stressing that this would not have been possible without the support of the country’s citizens.

“Let me inform you: on September 27, I will resign as President. That evening, I will address the people and thank them for their support. I have also served as President of the Republic longer than anyone else since the multiparty system was established in our country. I could not have done that without the citizens of this country. The only thing I can say is that I have faithfully served Serbia, faithfully served the citizens of this country—faithfully, diligently, devotedly and resolutely,” Vucic said.

He added that he would then begin campaigning for the early parliamentary elections scheduled for October 25.
