Vucic meets Whitaker: Ensuring the security of Serbs in Kosovo of vital importance for Serbia
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, emphasized today in a meeting with the United States Ambassador to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, that ensuring the security of the Serbian population in Kosovo is of crucial importance for Serbia, as well as continuing a responsible and serious policy based on dialogue and insistence on respect for international law and assumed obligations.
In a post on Instagram, Vucic stated that he and Whitaker discussed the most important security and political issues in the region, Serbia’s position in complex geopolitical circumstances, and the need to preserve peace and stability in the Western Balkans.
“I particularly emphasized that ensuring the security of our people in Kosovo and Metohija is of vital importance for Serbia, as well as continuing a responsible and serious policy that entails both dialogue and insistence on respect for international law and undertaken obligations. Serbia will continue to be a factor of stability, but it will always be able to protect its state and national interests,” Vucic said.
He added that they also discussed the improvement of Serbia–U.S. relations, as well as forms of cooperation that could contribute to greater mutual understanding and the preservation of peace in the region.
“I am convinced that open dialogue is important, especially in times of major challenges and changes in international relations,” Vucic added.
