The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, met today with the EU Special Representative for the Belgrade–Pristina Dialogue, Peter Sorensen, to discuss the current course of the dialogue and its continuation with more active EU engagement.

During the meeting, Vucic particularly pointed to the challenges Serbia faces regarding the position of the Serbian people in Kosovo and expressed concern over Pristina’s intention to begin implementing new escalatory and deeply discriminatory decisions as of March 15, which directly threaten the survival of the Serbian people.

“I urged the international community to treat these extremely important issues with the utmost seriousness and to do everything to ensure respect for the rights of the Serbian people. I also emphasized that by joining the so-called Kosovo to a regional military alliance, tensions are being further increased and the security of the Serbian people is being endangered,” Vucic said.

He also stressed the necessity of taking concrete steps, without further delay, toward the establishment of the Community of Serb Municipalities, which Serbs have been waiting for 13 years.

“I am convinced that it is in the interest of all parties to avoid moves that would lead to further escalation and, with EU mediation, to insist on the full implementation of the undertaken obligations and the preservation of peace and stability on the ground,” Vucic concluded.
