Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said today, following a meeting with Interpol Secretary General Valdecy Urquiza, that he is encouraged by the strong support from a large number of countries for Serbia to become the headquarters of Interpol's regional bureau, noting that this would confirm Serbia's role in preserving regional and international security.

Vucic and Urquiza discussed further strengthening cooperation in the fight against all forms of organized crime and international security threats.

Vucic said that particular attention during the meeting was devoted to improving information exchange, combating cybercrime, financial crime, human trafficking, and drug smuggling, as well as strengthening institutional capacities through international police cooperation.

"I am proud of the results achieved by our security authorities in international police cooperation. I am particularly pleased that there is significant support from a large number of countries for Serbia to become the headquarters of Interpol's regional bureau," Vucic wrote in a post on Instagram.

He stressed that this would represent important recognition for Serbia and confirmation of its role in safeguarding regional and international security.

"I believe that through our joint efforts we will further enhance cooperation between Serbia and Interpol for the benefit of our citizens and our shared security," Vucic said.
