Vucic with Sachs: Serbia has the potential for stronger technological and economic development
President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic met over a working breakfast with one of the world's most renowned economists, Jeffrey Sachs, who is participating in the First Sustainability and Connectivity Forum organized by the Serbian Chamber of Commerce.
Following the meeting, Vucic said it was an honor and a privilege to speak with Sachs, whose analyses and assessments, he noted, have served as an important guide for decision-makers for decades.
"It is an honor and a great privilege to speak with Jeffrey Sachs, one of the world's most distinguished economists, whose analyses and assessments have for decades served as an important guide for decision-makers. We exchanged views on the most important international economic, political, and security challenges, with particular emphasis on Serbia's position in complex geopolitical circumstances," Vucic said in a post on Instagram.
A special topic of discussion was the development of industry and artificial intelligence, as well as their role in shaping the future of the world.
"A special topic was the development of industry and artificial intelligence and their crucial role in shaping the future of the world, from the transformation of the global economy to people's everyday lives. I highlighted Serbia's enormous potential in these areas, as a country that has already positioned itself as a significant player on the map of global technological development," the Serbian president stated.
Vucic emphasized the importance of attracting investment, as well as the possibility of Serbia becoming part of the European Union's single market.
"Speaking about Serbia's economic prospects, I stressed that, alongside strong efforts to attract investment from around the world, our country also has a historic opportunity to become part of the EU single market, which would open the door to the free movement of goods, services, capital, and people, and enable domestic companies to operate without barriers in a market of more than 450 million consumers," Vucic said.
The discussion also touched on preserving Serbia's political stability, decision-making independence, and economic development.
"We also discussed the challenges of preserving our country's political stability, independent decision-making, and economic development, as well as the need for Serbia to continue pursuing a responsible and principled policy, open to cooperation with all, while consistently protecting its state and national interests," the Serbian president stated.
Vucic expressed special gratitude to Professor Sachs for what he described as his consistent commitment to the principles of international law and his willingness to speak about important global issues in an informed and independent manner.
"I especially thanked Professor Sachs for his consistent commitment to the principles of international law and his willingness to speak about important global issues in an informed and independent manner. I listened very carefully to his analyses and advice, convinced that one can always learn a great deal from people with such knowledge and experience," Vucic wrote.
