Today, the Serbian Progressive Party celebrated Vidovdan with a festive banquet at the "Yugoslavia" hotel in Belgrade, and President Aleksandar Vucic said on that occasion that Serbia was doing its best to preserve peace, Novosti writes.

Vucic said that in the first moments, which some people thought were difficult, many people turned their heads and pretended not to know what was happening, some bowed their heads a little, and some turned around and cursed, thinking that they had a better opportunity to be patted on the back somewhere else.

"But you also saw a large number of brave and courageous people who, although they were “hit” every day, were hit with the heaviest blows, and even when they fell they stood up, fought back, again not for themselves, but for their country, for their citizens. Those people should be your role models. There will be difficult days. I don't know how everything will go with Kosovo and Metohija. They will try to break and destroy our country from the inside in all possible tricks and ways because no one wants a small Serbia to be independent, to make decisions outside of the great powers, to make decisions in their own interest, not in the interest of the great powers. That is why it is important that you, as the political pillar of Serbia, be firm and strong," Vucic said.

The President of Serbia called on everyone to be responsible and smart enough. He says that the Serbian Progressive Party has done "more than all the others". Vucic asked party officials to pay attention to ordinary people.

He said that he expected many problems in Kosovo, but that "we are doing our best to preserve the peace".

"Let those who have confidence in us know that seeking a compromise is an expression of strength, not weakness. We will choose the moment when and how we will respond to certain challenges, always in accordance with the highest and most important interests of our people and our country," he said.

He thanked the Serbian Progressive Party for being a part of a movement that should represent a leading political force in these difficult times. He also said that this movement should never give up on the idea of an independent and sovereign Serbia.

"Freedom is a common name for the movement that will be founded and the Serbian Progressive Party," Vucic concluded.
