Vucic: By withdrawing the recognition of Kosovo's independence, Suriname became an example for other countries
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation of Suriname, Albert Ramdin, and said that by withdrawing the recognition of Kosovo's independence, that country had become an example for more than 25 other countries that had subsequently done the same.
Vucic stated on his Instagram "buducnostsrbijeav" that he had also talked with Ramdin about deepening friendly relations between the two countries.
"I am pleased that I had the opportunity to host the head of the diplomacy of Suriname again, with whom I exchanged opinions on the directions of further development of traditionally friendly relations. Suriname is of special importance to us because by withdrawing the recognition of so-called Kosovo it became an example for over 25 other countries that then did the same," Vucic said.
As stated in the press release of the Office for Cooperation with the Media of the President of the Republic, Vucic pointed out during the meeting that Serbia valued him very much
Suriname due to the decision to withdraw the recognition of the independence of Kosovo, which, as stated, had confirmed adherence to the basic principles of international law and the UN Charter.
"Minister Ramdin said that their decision was not in question and that Suriname remained committed to respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia," the statement added.
Vucic thanked him for the support of Belgrade's candidacy for the organization of the International World Exhibition EXPO 2027.
He also proposed the formation of a Joint Commission for Cooperation, in order to define more easily the areas in which there were opportunities for establishing stronger cooperation, such as health, education, sports, and others.
The interlocutors had also discussed regional and global developments, the statement added.
