Orlic with Ghalibaf: Iran respects the sovereignty of Serbia; the position on the non-recognition of Kosovo remains unchanged

The President of the National Assembly of Serbia, Vladimir Orlic, is on an official visit to Tehran, where, after a ceremonial reception in the Parliament of Iran, he met with the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who confirmed that his country unequivocally respected the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia and that it would not change its position.

As reported by the Assembly of Serbia, during the meeting with Orlic, Ghalibaf once again confirmed Iran's firm commitment to continue strengthening ties with Serbia, stressing that the relations between the two countries were based on mutual respect and understanding, as well as mutual support in international organizations.

He said that Serbia was a key country in the Western Balkans, as well as an important partner in Iran's foreign policy. He repeated that his country unequivocally respected the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia and that this position would remain unchanged, for which Orlic expressed his gratitude.

"By deciding not to recognize so-called Kosovo, you proved that you are not only on the side of Serbia but also on the side of public international law, UN principles, as well as on the side of peace," Orlic said during the meeting with Ghalibaf.

Orlic, the statement added, informed Ghalibaf about the extremely difficult situation in Kosovo, the terror faced by the Serbs, and Pristina's intentions to drag everyone into war.

"He also introduced him to the efforts undertaken by the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, in order to preserve peace and stability, saying that Serbia remained committed to comprehensive progress and achieving historic results in the economy, infrastructure, and other areas," the statement added.

During the meeting, the interlocutors expressed their mutual satisfaction with Orlic's visit, evaluating it as valuable for the continuation of discussions on the improvement of traditionally friendly relations between the two countries and the two people, as well as the strengthening of all-round cooperation.

The presidents of the parliaments, discussing the key spheres in which there is room for further joint work, emphasized cooperation in the fields of trade, agriculture, and energy.

In addition to meeting with Ghalibaf, whom he invited for an official visit to Serbia, Orlic also met in Iran with the Deputy Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, Mojtaba Zannouri, with whom he confirmed the excellent cooperation between the two parliaments and the potential for an even stronger partnership between Serbia and Iran.
