The President of the Private Sector Union, Jusuf Azemi, stated that 100,000 workers had left Kosovo in the last two years and warned that if the "exodus" of the workforce continued, only older people would be left to work, as reported by Teve 1.

Azemi says that to prevent this, a strategy should be developed that involves all relevant factors.

"People have been fleeing from Albania, but they are still more advanced than us when it comes to minimum wages, safety and health at work, and every aspect. Now we are talking about deaths and terrible safety at work. Together with our institutions, we need to come up with a strategy to stop this as soon as possible. We have had a massive exodus for at least two years," Azemi said.

He warns that if this trend continues, Kosovo will have serious problems with its workforce.

"We are small, with a very small number of workers, and it is harder for us to retain workers than others in the region. For example, in two years, 100,000 workers have left us, and if this trend continues for another two or three years, we will be left with workers over 60 years old," Azemi said.
