Giovanni Pietro Barbano, Head of the EULEX Mission, visited the Visoki Decani Monastery, where he spoke with Abbot Sava Janjić about the challenges facing the Serbian Orthodox Church and the protection of its religious sites.

“In a constructive and open discussion, Barbano and Abbot Father Sava exchanged views on the current challenges faced by the Serbian Orthodox Church in Kosovo, including issues of legal protection, heritage preservation, and the need for consistent rule of law,” the Visoki Decani Monastery said in a post on the social network X.

It added that such dialogue is essential for safeguarding religious rights and fostering mutual understanding.

Barbano also wrote today on X that the discussion addressed human rights, cultural heritage, and the role of the Implementation and Monitoring Council (IMC).

“It was a very productive discussion, with several insightful reflections on spiritual matters and the needs related to human rights and cultural heritage, as well as on the important role of the Implementation and Monitoring Council (IMC) within Kosovo’s legal framework,” Barbano stated.

The head of EULEX visited Visoki Decani on Saturday.
