Sociologist Jeton Brajshori stated that the arrival of foreign workers is a normal process, given that young people from Kosovo are leaving for abroad, which is why Kosovo lacks labor.

“Considering that our young people are going abroad to work, it is natural to expect that some people who want to work will come here to Kosovo. Mostly they come from India, Bangladesh, and other Asian countries. We must keep in mind how we are received in other countries, and we should treat those who come here in the same way—welcome them and cooperate with them,” Brajshori told Kosovo Online.

Emphasizing that work permits and residence permits are necessary for foreign nationals to work in Kosovo, Brajshori notes that in Pristina a large number of people, mainly from Asia, work in construction.

He added that the procedures for obtaining those permits are not difficult.

According to him, the initial reactions of Kosovo citizens to workers from other countries were not very positive, but now they already understand that Kosovo needs labor.

“At the beginning, the reactions were not very good, but as time passed, they understood that we must accept newcomers, just as we work abroad. These people need a job, and that is why they came here. Some may fear or complain because there is not enough work and wages are low, and that will be a small problem, but I believe it will pass quickly,” Brajshori emphasized.
