The Kupresanin family was evicted today from their apartment in North Mitrovica by order of the Kosovo Property Comparison and Verification Agency, with the assistance of the Kosovo Police. Svetlana Kupresanin says they have nowhere to go and are now literally on the street.

Svetlana, a single mother of three, had been living in that apartment since 2003. At the time, the family moved in after previously residing in inadequate facilities in the old “Branko Radicevic” school in North Mitrovica. They were granted use of the apartment by the Coordination Center for Kosovo and Metohija.

Now, she says, she lives there only with her son.

She told Kosovo Online that agency and police officers gave them only 15 minutes to leave the premises upon entering the apartment.

“We didn’t even have time to properly collect our belongings. They just said we had to leave immediately. We have nowhere to go – we’ve been left literally on the street,” said a visibly distressed Svetlana.

The Kupresanin family is the fourth this month to be evicted from their apartment by the Pristina authorities, with police assistance.
