Lina Veca: More and more Albanians are suffering from severe illnesses; they are being secretly treated in Italian military hospitals

Maria Lina Veca, an Italian journalist and researcher from Rome, claims that an increasing number of Kosovo Albanians suffering from severe illnesses are being secretly treated in Italian military hospitals because official Pristina and NATO refuse to acknowledge the cause-and-effect link between these illnesses and the 1999 Kosovo bombing with depleted uranium ammunition.

Veca has been closely monitoring events in Kosovo for over 20 years and recently published a book titled "Depleted Uranium: The Earth is So Sad."

In an interview with Kosovo Online, she provides alarming statistics, stating that the number of people suffering from severe illnesses in Kosovo is on the rise, and they are secretly seeking treatment in Italian military hospitals.

"Albanians are sick. They are also victims of depleted uranium. They thought that, as NATO's friends, they couldn't be victims of their weapons. But they have fallen ill. They secretly come to Italian military hospitals to get treatment. However, no one talks about it because, for Albanians, there can't be illnesses caused by depleted uranium since their friends fired it," Veca emphasizes.

According to the data available to her, the situation in Kosovo is currently worse than it was in 1999.

"Uranium is a 'silent crime.' The situation is worse now than it was in 1999 because the dust has settled and is increasingly being absorbed into the land. The soil and water are contaminated, especially the groundwater in Kosovo. It is completely contaminated. People are suffering and dying more today than 20 years ago. But no one seems to care," Veca says, adding that she is nonetheless skeptical that Albanians will decide to follow the lead of citizens of Serbia and Republika Srpska in suing those responsible.
