Serbs in Kosovo welcomed the New Year without major celebrations, in the circle of family and friends

Citizens in majority-Serb municipalities in Kosovo welcomed the New Year in the circle of family and friends, because due to the current security situation, there was no organized celebration in public. Exactly at midnight, with powerful pyrotechnics, they saw off the old year and announced the entry into the new year.

In Severna Mitrovica, Zvecan, Leposavic and Zubin Potok, there was no reception in bars and coffee shops, but celebrations were held in the home environment.

Northern Mitrovica is decorated with New Year's decorations, and just one day before the New Year, a Christmas tree was placed on the promenade that leads from Knez Lazar Square to almost the very bridge over the Ibar.

Italian carabinieri are on duty on the main bridge over the Ibar, and in the multi-ethnic neighborhoods of the city there are still strong special units of the Kosovo police from the ranks of the Albanians, armed with long guns.

Traditionally, the citizens of Mitrovica celebrate the Orthodox New Year outdoors, with a rich cultural and artistic program and services, but it is questionable whether it will be organized this year as well.

Tensions in the north of Kosmet have subsided a little, but fear and uncertainty are still present, because the entire north of Kosovo is in a kind of ring of members of special units under the command of Pristina.
