Students in Pristina: Studying is free, most money spent on transport and food

Students at the University of Pristina have minimal expenses during their studies, which mostly relate to transport and food, while tuition, as they told Kosovo Online, is free.

Besim Gashi, a second-year anthropology student at the Faculty of Philosophy in Pristina, says his study expenses are minimal because he lives in his parents’ apartment.

“Studying is free for us. I’m in my second year and I have almost no expenses. I don’t pay rent because I live with my parents in Pristina, in their apartment,” Gashi said.

His colleague Riga Uka said she spends some money outside of university, mostly on food.

“I don’t think I spend much, since we don’t pay for university. We don’t have many expenses, maybe just for food,” Uka said.

A sociology student from Podujevo stated that she spends about 50 euros per month on transport.

“I pay for transport and spend some money on food. The university is free for everyone,” she said.

Arbijerie Saljihu from Kosovo Polje said that public transport is free for students.

“We don’t pay for university. As first-year students we don’t have any expenses, but we do spend a lot of money on food. I spend about 30 euros a week, maybe more,” Saljihu said.

For students renting accommodation in Pristina, apartment prices in classified ads range from 250 to 400 euros per month, depending on size and location.
