Vasic: When we face the witnesses, the indictment against Trajkovic must be dropped
Lawyer Dejan A. Vasic, who represents Sladjan Trajkovic, stated today that he was convinced that during the proceedings and the confrontation with the witnesses, the charges brought against his client by the Prosecution would be "dropped".
"We wanted the trial to be as efficient as possible, to show what the truth is and what the lies are. We will try to show the President of the Judicial Panel and the Judicial Panel that will be formed that there are serious reasons to terminate Sladjan's detention. No, we are not running away from participating in the proceedings. We want to participate in the proceedings as fully as possible, to confront each of those witnesses; those are all the people Sladjan knows, and some of them used to come to Trajkovic's house. We want to look them in the eye," Vasic said.
He pointed out that the Prosecution had not submitted some documents that were important for the case and that was why the hearing had been postponed. The next hearing is scheduled for August 4, at 9:30 a.m., when the indictment is expected to be read.
"No man who even thought of doing something like that, and what you are accusing Trajkovic of, would not allow his family to be here today and stand proudly by his side. Sladjan is the hero of this family, Sladjan is a man who as a policeman, a friend, and a colleague deserves at least what is human, to be treated by his doctors and to have someone to take care of his health. Basically, that's what we're looking for, we're not running away from the process; the truth will be confirmed when we look into the eyes of the witnesses, and everything will be dropped. And for bail, the family is ready to sell everything they have, so that he can be saved and stay at home due to his health," Vasic said.
The lawyer had previously asked the court to determine the measure of bail and for Trajkovic to be released from custody.
He says he has pointed that out several times.
Today's hearing was also attended by the alleged victims from the indictment.
The judge noted that the next hearing would not be open to the public.
Let us remind you that Trajkovic was arrested on December 15 last year in Bosniak Mahala in North Mitrovica and has been in custody since then.
On May 25, the Court of Appeals of Kosovo decided to cancel the decision on extending the custody of Trajkovic, but on May 29, the Basic Court in Pristina again made a decision to extend the detention for another two months.
By the way, at the beginning of November last year, Trajkovic, together with other colleagues, left the Kosovo Police as a sign of protest against the violence that the authorities in Pristina are carrying out against the Serbs in the north.
The Special Prosecutor's Office of Kosovo filed an indictment against the defendant Sladjan Trajkovic for an alleged war crime against the civilian population in the period 1998-1999. year, in the village of Reznik, the municipality of Vucitrn, and surrounding villages.
