The wife of Sladjan Trajkovic: He doesn't receive treatment, and lost 30 kilograms, I wonder how he's still alive
Suzana Trajkovic, the wife of Sladjan Trajkovic, who has been in detention in Podujevo for over ten months on allegations of war crimes, claims that her husband is still not receiving regular diabetes treatment. She is calling on international representatives to visit the Serbs held in that prison, hear their stories, and become acquainted with the terror they face there, Politika reports.
Sladjan Trajkovic, a former Kosovo Police officer, has been in detention since December 15th of the previous year. His wife, Suzana, claims that he has not been receiving medication for nearly a year, despite being a diabetic and suffering from liver cirrhosis.
"It's inconceivable to me how he's still alive. We visited him last Wednesday, and he told us not to bring him any more medications because there's no need; they won't give it to him. Specifically, for diabetes, they provide it once a month when he needs it daily. For liver cirrhosis, they have completely discontinued it. He is a diabetic, and they give him jam for breakfast, while lunch, for him and others, has been reduced to a minimum. They used to be able to make a 15-minute phone call, but the last time we spoke for 12 minutes", a visibly distressed Suzana Trajkovic reveals, whose husband was arrested in Kosovska Mitrovica, just a month and a half after leaving the Kosovo Police, where he had worked for almost ten years, along with other Serbs who had left Kosovo's institutions.
She also testifies that they recently took her husband to a Pristina hospital, where "the doctor first asked what he was accused of".
"My husband knows Albanian, unlike many Serbs who don't know a word. He understood when the guards told the doctor that it was because of a war crime, which was the reason for prescribing a salve that would cause 'open wounds' on his body. Fortunately, we couldn't find this salve anywhere in central Serbia, and one person told us that it stopped being produced a long time ago and is not available in pharmacies. I am very worried, and we are just waiting for the day when they will inform us of the worst. I have written and visited all international representatives in Kosovo, telling everyone that my husband will be killed there, but there is no reaction," Suzana says, who appeals again to all international representatives in Kosovo, Kosovo institutions, and the World Health Organization.
She has called on them to "visit the prison in Podujevo, listen to the Serbs, and become acquainted with the terror they face", including her husband, who has lost more than 30 kilograms since his detention. Suzana testifies that Sladjan is still led on foot, shackled and without the use of the elevator, to the highest floors when he goes to the doctor or to trials, "even though they know he has open wounds due to diabetes, and that he is completely exhausted".
Ilija Elezovic, who was recently arrested, is also in Podujevo. He is a seriously ill cancer patient, a fact confirmed by representatives of several international missions in Kosovo who visited him and reviewed his medical records. Zoran Kostic is also held in solitary confinement in this prison, and according to his family, he is not receiving his medication. Milun Milenkovic Lune and Dusan Obrenovic, both from North Mitrovica, are behind bars in Grdovac. During their arrests and testimonies, they were brutally beaten. Nenad Orlovic from Zvecan is also there, and his arrest is remembered for the act where they put a black bag over his head and photographed him, after forcing him to undress from the waist up.
