Analysts: Attacks on Vucic in Belgrade with support from outside; someone would like to make Serbia similar to Ukraine
The whole world is participating in the war in Ukraine, and it is obvious that some foreign services would like to expand that conflict into the Balkans and Serbia, according to the interlocutors of Kosovo Online regarding last night's extreme right-wing demonstrations in front of the Presidency in Belgrade, as well as the death threats addressed to President Aleksandar Vucic.
The former president of the Provisional Executive Council of Kosovo and Metohija, Zoran Baki Andjelkovic, tells Kosovo Online that it is necessary for the state to react strongly after "open threats and threats to the president, as well as finding weapons among those who went to that rally."
"You cannot take it lightly. When it comes to the protests themselves, whether they are left-wing or right-wing, those supported by the East or the West, anyone who tries to regulate Serbia from the outside is not welcome. Serbia must have its way to fight for the interests of its people in Kosovo - and by no means with radical moves that some others would impose on us from the side. The situation is extremely dangerous, especially when those people at the demonstrations have support from outside. Unfortunately, we underestimate the fact that there are only 1,000 kilometers from us, a serious war, in which both NATO and Russia are participating. There is a war in Ukraine, but most of the world is participating in one way or another. Expansion of those conflicts in Ukraine is possible, and many would like to expand it over to the Balkans, more precisely to Serbia. The President of Serbia was convincingly elected, and they were also parliamentary elections, and he is the one who represents Serbian interests and you cannot endanger his safety like that. As I said, the state and the prosecution had to react strongly," Andjelkovic said.
Ljuban Karan, a retired lieutenant colonel of the Counterintelligence Service, tells Kosovo Online that there was probably a plan to violently overthrow the government last night and that it is possible that the Wagner group was involved in the events in front of the Presidency.
"As for the protest, it was organized to overthrow the current government by force, which became clear especially when the carbine with optics appeared. This was discovered in time, so if some others were carrying weapons, they gave them up. Which foreign factor was involved here? You see, a good part of these parties that attended the rally and participated, do not come out of foreign embassies, primarily Western ones, but on the street, we could see pro-Russian forces and supporters of the Wagner Group. Personally, I am a great opponent of private armies, because there's nothing they wouldn't do for money. I'm not protecting anyone, but I think it's more the western services that want to overthrow the government in Serbia than the Russian ones, which doesn't mean that the Wagner Group isn't involved. They're connected to some groups, like the People's Patrols, but that is a too small number of people. Of course, I do not rule out the possibility that the Wagner Group is paying some to cause chaos in Serbia," Karan says.
Professor of security sciences Miroslav Bjegovic points out for Kosovo Online that "yesterday's attempt by extremists to overthrow Serbia and its president with violence, threats, causing chaos, is actually a demonstration of impotence and dishonorable intentions of parts of the extreme opposition.
"Those under the baton of the Western intelligence centers of power receive instructions and logistics in order to achieve a common goal and neutralize the main obstacle - President Vucic, while not choosing the means. This event and the seriousness of the threats represent a threat to national security and the security of the president and the state with elements of terrorism. The goal is to cause fear, panic, and a sense of insecurity in both government representatives and citizens, that their security system cannot protect them, so the government needs to be changed, and they are doing all this to achieve their only political goal. What are the intentions of the organizers of the protest, the arrest also tells us about one participant in whose possession a rifle with an optical sight was found, and precisely because of all these facts, we expect the arrest and prosecution of all the organizers, and those who threatened to kill the president of the state, to answer in accordance with the law of the Republic of Serbia," Bjegovic said.
