Shahini: 400 companies closed in three months, Kosovo unattractive for new businesses
Agim Shahini, President of the Alliance of Kosovo Businesses (AKB), says for Ekonomia Online that nearly 400 companies have ceased operations in Kosovo within three months and that it is happening due to debts and competition. Shahini finds this disturbing, and he says he expects institutional action.
"It is a concern for the country, we are currently talking about the last three months, when an average of about 400 companies closed down. No business voluntarily closes while doing well, but if it is performing poorly, then it happens. This makes Kosovo an unattractive place for new businesses, and traditional businesses are also heading towards bankruptcy due to various consecutive strikes and other reasons," he added.
He says new investments and development opportunities are three very important factors for business development.
Shahini also points out the burdens that companies face in the country, including taxes and infrastructure.
"The government must do more to create new development opportunities, new investment opportunities, and support. With these three important factors, the economy could be active. Companies are very busy and doing everything to avoid closure, but eventually, there comes a moment when they may give up and cannot cope with consecutive burdens, including high tax burdens and high interest burdens," he says.
Shahini requests that the term "companies voluntarily closing down" not be used because, as he emphasizes, no one "goes home expecting any social assistance."
