In Kosovo, half a million more voters than the population, Elshani: Blame the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the municipalities

Today, the Central Election Commission certified the list of citizens who have the right to vote in the elections on February 9, 2025, which totals 2,075,868 voters, while the results of the census held in April and May this year show that Kosovo has 1,586,659 residents.

Of the total number of voters, 1,970,944 have the right to vote at polling stations in Kosovo, and 104,924 people are registered to vote outside of Kosovo.

This figure shows a significant discrepancy compared to the number of citizens recorded in the Kosovo census, which is 384,285, reports Gazeta Exspress.

The difference is even larger considering that among the total number of registered citizens, some are minors without the right to vote, this portal notes.

In this context, Arijanit Elshani, a member of the DPK in the Central Election Commission, stated that the voter list includes citizens who will be over 18 years old on election day, as well as all citizens living abroad, but also deceased individuals, whom families have not deregistered either with the municipality or the Registration Agency.

"The voter list is provided by the Ministry of Internal Affairs; therefore, the blame is on them and the municipalities that do not have updated databases," concluded Elshani.
