Maroevic: A significant portion of voters in Kosovo still support political options relying on former KLA members

A significant portion of Albanian voters in Kosovo still support political options that rely on former members of the KLA, RTS web portal editor Rade Maroevic believes.

Maroevic told Kosovo Online that the key question of the Kosovo elections, scheduled for June 7, is whether Albin Kurti will manage to form the future government under any scenario.

Speaking about the electoral lists, he stated that political parties are trying to attract as many voters as possible by engaging well-known figures and former KLA members, including those who were tried for war crimes or had been convicted.

“This is a process that is not specific only to Kosovo. We had similar examples in Croatia, as well as in other states created after the breakup of Yugoslavia,” Maroevic stated.

He added that parties choose people they believe can bring them votes, and that the appearance of former KLA members on the lists of any party represents an attempt to strengthen the national line and mobilize the same electorate.

“All parties are trying to attract voters from the same bloc that in previous election cycles mainly supported Albin Kurti,” Maroevic concluded.
