Albanian Post: Macron has suspended visa liberalization for Kosovo
French President Emmanuel Macron stated today that his country had suspended the visa liberalization process because Kosovo had not "kept its word," as reported by the Albanian Post.
Speaking at a press conference alongside Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, Macron stated that they had shown confidence in Kosovo by approving visa liberalization, but that France had now suspended the process.
"We trusted you on the visa issue, which France has now halted. Promises are not kept, and I'm waiting for the two sides to commit. This is a condition for peace in the entire region," Macron declared.
He remained firm in his stance on Paris's approach to the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue and called for the swift implementation of the Franco-German plan for normalizing relations, the organization of elections in four municipalities in the north as soon as possible, and the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities.
"We expect Kosovo and Serbia to organize elections in the northern municipalities, for Serbs to participate, and for the Community of Serb Municipalities to be established. I expect responsibility from Vucic, as well as from Osmani and Kurti," Macron stated.
Macron specified that he closely monitored the tensions between Kosovo and Serbia and that he expected Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic to "condemn the attack in northern Kosovo" in which a Kosovo police officer had been killed.
"It's Vucic's responsibility to condemn this act because it would help to establish peace," Macron believes.
He expressed his expectation that Vucic and Kurti would be responsible for their actions.
"Promises aren't kept, and in the coming weeks, I expect the parties to work together. This is needed for peace in the entire region," Macron concluded.
