President of the Serbian Parliament Vladimir Orlic is on an official visit to Baku, which began with a meeting and conversation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, whom he thanked for the firm decision not to recognize Kosovo and for the support to Serbia, especially before the Council of Europe.

"We consider this stance as evidence of strong friendship," Orlic said.

According to the statement of the National Assembly, Orlic informed Aliyev about the extremely difficult situation in Kosovo, for which, as he emphasized, the sole culprit was Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, as well as his terrible campaign of ethnic cleansing of the Serbs.

He said that Serbia remained committed to further development and achieving new results in the fields of economy, infrastructure, investments, as well as cooperation with its friends from Azerbaijan.

Orlic thanked President Aliyev for the importance he attaches to comprehensive bilateral relations with Serbia and conveyed greetings from Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

He emphasized that the relations between Serbia and Azerbaijan were historically the highest level, based on mutual respect, understanding, and mutual support.

Orlic confirmed Serbia's commitment to the implementation of the Joint Statement of the two Presidents, which, among other things, emphasized the importance of the exchange of visits and cooperation at the parliamentary level, in order to further strengthen friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.

The interlocutors confirmed that Serbia and Azerbaijan unanimously and principledly respected international public law, and UN principles, and provided mutual support for territorial integrity and sovereignty.

President Aliyev emphasized during the meeting that, thanks to the established friendship with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, which was followed by representatives of both states and citizens of Serbia and Azerbaijan, the partnership and relations between the two countries were constantly developing and improving. He also stated that the official visit of the President of the Serbian Parliament would further strengthen the established bilateral relations and stressed the importance of continuing cooperation between Serbia and Azerbaijan, both at the level of the two presidents and the two governments and parliaments.

Aliyev once again confirmed that strong support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia would continue in the future and that Azerbaijan would stand by our country and represent its interests in international forums and organizations.

"Count on Azerbaijan, because we are always with our friends and on the side of justice," Aliyev said.

During the meeting between President Aliyev and Orlic, there were talks about specific steps to strengthen cooperation and mutual readiness was expressed to continue discussions and intensive joint work on all issues of importance to the two countries and two peoples.

During his stay in Baku, Orlic is accompanied by the President of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Azerbaijan, Dusan Maric, as well as the Ambassador of Serbia to Azerbaijan, Dragan Vladisavljevic.
