The rector of the University of Pristina with headquarters in Kosovska Mitrovica, Nebojsa Arsic, confirmed to Kosovo Online that, as he said, unknown civilians came to the University Rectorate this morning with a demand that the Faculty of Technical Sciences vacate the building within 30 days or sign an agreement with the University of Pristina.

Arsic said that all employees at the Rectorate were unpleasantly surprised this morning.

“We were all unpleasantly surprised. We do not know whether they were police officers, the people were in civilian clothes. They brought a document from the University of Pristina stating that the building of the Faculty of Technical Sciences is located on land that belongs to the University of Pristina and demanding that within 30 days the faculty vacate the premises or somehow enter into a contractual relationship with them. We also examined the cadastral plots on which the building of the Faculty of Technical Sciences is located. These are ‘Trepca plots’, and that building has never been the property of the University of Pristina, not even before the war,” Arsic said.

He added that they had informed the highest authorities of Serbia about the situation and were waiting to see what the response would be.

“We have also informed representatives of the international community. Our representatives are currently in talks with them to see what this is about. However, this is just another piece of evidence that Pristina intends to move against the University, our University,” the rector stressed.

Asked what he expects from talks on this issue and whether any solution is in sight, Arsic said that Pristina’s move is another provocation in a series and a way of testing the waters to see how Serbia will react.

“We are aware of the situation we are in, we are aware that without our state we cannot do anything there on our own. That is why we are waiting for a reaction from state authorities to see how things will develop further, and we are in constant contact both with them and with representatives of the international community,” Arsic concluded.
