Former Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament of the Democratic Union of Kosovo Hykmete Bajrami told for Nacionale that the government of Albin Kurti did not fulfill the promises it had made and that the economy of Kosovo suffered a free fall during her mandate.

"Not only during 2023, but since this government came to power, the economy has suffered a free fall. It is enough to see that when this government took power on March 21, 2021, economic growth was 16 percent, and today only 2 percent. It is true that this Government is facing several crises, as it is true that it received 51 percent of the vote of the electorate promising to do miracles in every area. There are no citizens who do not remember Kurti's promises that basic products will cost less because VAT on those products will be zero, that the minimum wage will be increased, 160 roads and dozens of other promises, none of which have been realized after 32 months," said Bajrami.

According to her opinion, the biggest failure in the energy sector is that no step has been taken towards the construction of production capacities, and now, due to the sanctions against Kosovo, the replacement of the existing thermal power plants is failing and the situation is only expected to worsen.

As another failure of this government, Bajrami cites the change in the structure of the budget because more than one third goes to subsidies and transfers.

"The budget should be oriented towards development policies that create better conditions for business and the creation of new jobs," says Bajrami.

He also states that Kurti's government is characterized by inefficiency, that key positions and institutions have been vacant for months, and some for years.

"The government also refused to cooperate and talk with the private sector, there was no communication at all with business associations because it refused social dialogue with trade unions," says Bajrami.
