KFOR Commander Major General Enrico Barduani expressed full support for the EU-facilitated dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina during a meeting with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, emphasizing it as the only platform for resolving outstanding issues and achieving solutions that respect the rights of all communities.
During the meeting with Kurti, Barduani highlighted that KFOR will continue to contribute to a peaceful and secure environment for all people and communities living in Kosovo and to ensure freedom of movement at all times and impartially, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1244 from 1999 and the Military-Technical Agreement.
"He reiterated KFOR’s full support for the EU-facilitated dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina as the only platform for resolving outstanding issues and achieving solutions that respect the rights of all communities, adding that this is crucial for lasting security throughout Kosovo and for regional stability," Barduani said, according to the KFOR statement.
Barduani also emphasized his firm commitment to promoting unity of effort with all his colleagues to ensure coordination and reduce the potential for actions that could lead to tensions.
The statement further notes that KFOR continues to carry out its mandate based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244 from 1999, to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for all people living in Kosovo and freedom of movement, at all times and impartially.
"KFOR acts as the third security responder, after the Kosovo Police and the EU Rule of Law Mission (EULEX), with whom we work closely," the KFOR statement concludes.
