Besnik Berisha: Due to the ban on the import of weapons, Kosovo Police is taking weapons confiscated from citizens
Lawyer Besnik Berisha stated that due to the current situation, Kosovo was unable to import weapons, not even from Albania, so Pristina was attempting to allow confiscated weapons from civilians to be made available to the Kosovo Police through court decisions.
"We are a country that no one sells weapons to anymore. The Kosovo Police does not have the ability to purchase weapons, even in Albania. That is why Minister of Internal Affairs Xhelal Svecla has a problem, and that is why the Judicial Council of Kosovo has found a 'way' to violate the law. Do you know that there is a consideration to hand over confiscated weapons from civilians to the police for the protection of the state and sovereignty?" Berisha pointed out to Klan Kosova TV.
As he noted, Kosovo has been under an embargo on arms imports for 23 years, caused by the current government or people who, as he said, "negotiated with Radoicic," and so Kosovo is currently under sanctions.
Even Edi Rama does not have the ability to sell weapons to Kosovo, Berisha added.
"And our courts, for example, the court in Urosevac, make decisions that give the Ministry the right for the Kosovo Police to take confiscated weapons that are supposed to be destroyed. Therefore, Kalashnikovs and pistols used in murders and robberies, at the request of this government, the courts return them to the police because of the 'war' we started, and now we have no friends or partners," Berisha said.
He emphasizes that he takes full responsibility for what he says and calls on Prime Minister Albin Kurti to refute him if he can.
"There are nearly 300 court decisions to hand over confiscated weapons to the police. If it is not true, I am ready to face criminal charges. But this government, these people, negotiated with Radoicic, and now they are telling us how to expand sovereignty to the north of Kosovo," Berisha stated.
