British minister: Albanians should be banned from seeking asylum in Great Britain

The United Kingdom Minister for Immigration, Robert Jenrick, said that Albanians should be prohibited from applying for asylum in Great Britain, because they came from, as he stated, an apparently safe country, Klan Kosova reports.

His comments came after the country's Home Office had refused to comment on a report in the Sunday Times, that ministers had been working on legislation that could prevent asylum seekers from entering the UK illegally.

"It is very difficult to understand how an Albanian could successfully request asylum here in Britain. We have an agreement on return, which was signed a year ago, and a thousand Albanians have already returned. We are looking at what we can do, we are also following diplomatic channels," he said.

Jenrick warned that illegal migration was likely to be a problem in the next few years.

"We can't have a million people coming into the country in a year and a net migration of half a million, that's just not sustainable. What worries me is that there are people who come to university and then bring their families to the UK and stay here for a long period," he emphasized.

Jenrick stated that Albanians made up over a third of the 33,000 migrants who came to Great Britain in small boats across the English Channel in the first nine months of this year and added that they were the number one priority.
