Brnabic on sanctions against Russia: Serbia clearly states its principled position

The Prime Minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, says that when it comes to the introduction of sanctions against Russia, Serbia clearly states its principled position.

In the show "Hit Tweet" on TV Pink, she said that on the one hand, the EU was "showing off about morality and imposing sanctions on Russia", and on the other hand, it was not so consistent in this regard.

"You see that Belgium fought not to introduce sanctions in order to import diamonds from Russia. In the completely moral story about sanctions, diamonds turned out to be more important. In the analysis of the Financial Times for the first 10 months, the import of Russian liquefied gas into the EU is 42 percent higher than in 2021, of which France, Belgium and the Netherlands bought almost all supplies," Brnabic said.

As another example, she cited sanctions on oil imports from Russia, from which some member countries are exempt.

"The Western Balkans is not, we are super strong, and some other countries like Hungary, the Czech Republic and Croatia are exempt. Croatia accuses us of sitting on two chairs and what are they doing? Only one of their chairs seems to be tucked in a little so it can't be seen. Whenever they can benefit from foreign policy, they do it. There is still a lot of it, such as the import of agricultural products, but these diamonds won for me," Brnabic said.

She also said that some independent media should apologize to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic for writing that he would recognize Kosovo or impose sanctions on Russia.

"It would be responsible that once we hear apologies to the president for lying for months and years about recognition and sanctions," Brnabic said.
