Brnabic: We are conducting the best, but also the most difficult policy for the country
Serbian Prime Minister, Ana Brnabic, said today at the Kopaonik Business Forum that the policy that Serbia was pursuing at the moment was the best for the country, but also the most difficult.
"We defend our policy with arguments, international law, the Charter of the United Nations, the international order, the things that happened to us, the aggression against the FR Yugoslavia, and the attempt to seize part of our territory," Brnabic said, as reported by Euronews.
She emphasized that Serbia had to be treated as a specific case.
"As much as some doubt that we will maintain the course, we maintain it with the arguments we have. I am not sure how long we will maintain it, but every day is important," Brnabic said.
The Prime Minister reminded that the strategic direction of Serbia was known, and that was the European Union, that is, European integration.
"To be or not to be, that's Hamlet's question. Unfortunately, that dilemma does not exist in the EU, because the majority of members are not in favor of enlargement. Regardless of whether you fully respect and follow the EU's common external policy or not, regardless of the reform in the field of law, I think that at this moment the answer for them is no, but should this change our policy towards the EU and the path towards the EU - absolutely not," Brnabic said and repeated that this attitude of the members should absolutely not affect the policy that Serbia led.
She emphasized that all the reforms that Serbia was leading, on the way to the EU were in the interest of the state, our economy, and our citizens
She pointed out that it was in Serbia's interest to "not be the grass when the elephants are fighting" in the relations between the great powers, and that Chinese investments were respected in our country, even though they were larger in Western Europe than in Serbia and the Western Balkans.
"When elephants fight, let's not be grass, and we are in that position, both historically and today," Brnabic said when asked to comment on the tightening of relations between the US and China.
