The head of the foreign policy committee of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) parliamentary group in the Bundestag, Petr Bystron, assessed for Kosovo Online that the NATO intervention in the FRY in 1999 was a precedent and a great crime against the Serbian people.

"The war against Yugoslavia was a great crime against the Serbian people. It was a precedent. For the first time, NATO carried out aggression outside its zone of action, and now 25 years later it is good to remember that," said Bystron, who participated in the two-day international conference "From aggression to a new just order" in Belgrade on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the beginning of the NATO bombing of the FRY.
As he adds, it can be seen that NATO has developed into an instrument for the implementation of American geopolitical interests.

"It lost the basic goal of being a defense alliance," Bystron emphasized.

Effenberger: I admire the courage of the Serbs in 1999, the attack on the FRY, the beginning of the war in Eurasia

The German historian and former officer of the Bundessphere, Wolfgang Effenberger, commented for Kosovo Online that he admired the courage of the Serbs in 1999 and that the attack on the FRY that year was the beginning of the war in Eurasia.

"The courage of the Serbs to oppose those geostrategic goals of the USA led to that alleged punishment from the point of view of the Americans. Now we see that it was only the beginning. Five days before the attack on Serbia, on March 19, 1999, the US Congress adopted the Silk Road strategy in Washington. An American-dominated corridor was to be created on the Silk Road. The law did not say how deep it was. All the wars are now taking place in that corridor. Ukraine and Crimea are also in that corridor," Effenberger said.
He points out that the war against Yugoslavia was the beginning of the war in Eurasia and that it has to do with the US strategy from September 2014, which stipulates that the United States must "liberate the world from the threat of Russia and China" by 2040.

He also points out that the world has not learned anything from the bombing of FRY.

"What we see in the world today, on the 25th anniversary of the attack on Yugoslavia, is the world's struggle for a unipolar or multipolar world order. It is a fight that is currently ongoing", concludes Effenberger.

Lehthaler: The attack on FRY in 1999 accelerated negative processes in the world

Peace activist from the Workshop for Peace and Stability in Austria, Boris Lehthaler, told Kosovo Online that the NATO attack on the FRY showed that the UN Security Council is incapable of protecting its full members from aggression.

"It was the first war of aggression against an independent country, without the mandate of the UN Security Council. This accelerated the negative development of the past 25 years, the destabilization and problems we see today," said Lehthaler.

He added that the world did not learn lessons from that event.

"But apparently many have learned that the international order, the UN Security Council and the UN itself cannot protect against aggression. It would be important to return to the international order based on the equality of all nations, states, on the basis of peace and negotiations, as well as the strengthening of international institutions", concluded Lehthaler.
