Eugen Cakolli, an associate of the Democratic Institute of Kosovo, tells Kosovo Online that if political parties continue to maintain entrenched positions and stances, new parliamentary elections will become a realistic option. However, he points out that elections cannot be called without first electing the president of the Assembly.

He does not believe that new elections would bring significantly different results from the current ones, and says that such a scenario would only highlight the lack of political culture and maturity among the political parties represented in the Assembly, as they are unable to find common ground even on a procedural issue such as electing the president of parliament.

Cakolli believes that new elections would not suit either the Self-Determination or the opposition.

“Elections would benefit no one. Not just because of procedural and financial implications, but also because we cannot expect a different outcome. Even after a potential new electoral cycle, there would still be a need for political compromises between the forces in the Assembly in order to elect the speaker, deputy speakers, and to form institutions,” Cakolli says.
