Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Michael O’Flaherty, in a letter addressed to civil society organizations in Kosovo, emphasized that his mandate includes promoting awareness of human rights for all communities and encouraging respect for those rights.
The Council of Europe’s Human Rights Commissioner thus responded to a letter sent by Kosovo civil society organizations regarding human rights violations against the Serbian community in Kosovo and their invitation for him to visit Kosovo.
“As Commissioner for Human Rights, my mandate is to promote awareness of and respect for the human rights of all communities. Ensuring respect for the human rights of minority communities is essential for guaranteeing democratic societies that uphold human rights throughout Europe, including in Kosovo,” O’Flaherty stated.
“Thank you for drawing my attention to your concerns and for inviting me to visit Kosovo. I will consider both matters,” he added.
